Of the work posted on Kazemzadeh’s site, ‘Animorigami,’ is somewhat primitive, though I find the seemingly simple gesture of the origami crane’s wing movement as mechanized through a series of reels and pulleys fascinating. Especially relevant for the projects that we are currently working on in class, this piece is one that uses its construction/mechanistic ‘guts’ as part of the aesthetic quality. Although ironic in the fact that the cardboard construction appears a little sloppy , the fact that the system operates as smoothly as it does bespeaks precision which is the overall most striking aspect of the project. Newer works on Kazemzadeh\’s site include an interactive ‘Wishing Well’ that literally projects hopes and dreams digitally- submitted, a robot that draws sunrise trajectories based on environmental conditions, a virtual character that viewers can interrupt and harass on screen, and intelligent lillypads that monitor water conditions. Additionally, many of Kazemzadeh’s projects are linked to source pages that outline arduino sketches, electronic schematics, and problems encountered in the work, so this artist is very interested in promoting this interactive-microcontroller-art culture.

I can’t seem to get the video to upload on here, but here is the link….
